Sufism - sufi - "Sufi Tales of Wisdom"

By: Bawa Muhaiyaddeen

My love you, my children. God has made many millions of creations that live in the ocean. Have you ever gone down into the ocean and seen any of them? Let’s go together and take a look at some.

How subtle these creations are! They display so many different shapes, forms, colors, and designs. Some of the fish look a lot like flowers, and some are even more beautiful than man. Each is more amazing than the next.

Look at that fish with the sharp, thin tail and broad body. It is an electric fish. The current in its tail is more powerful than the current in a five hundred watt bulb. When this tail touches other fish, the current passes through them, paralyzing or even killing them. So, even though many fish catch and eat one another, no fish can catch the electric fish. God has created this fish with so much power. But it uses its power in such a subtle way that it doesn’t harm other creatures unless they touch it directly.

The electric fish is made of the same five elements as man. Its body contains blood and water, just like ours. But is also contains a powerful electric current. This electricity is different from what we are familiar with. The kind we use causes a shock if we are in contact with any water or metals through which a current is passing. But even though this fish is full of electricity, it is able to live in water without shocking itself. How subtly God has created this creature!

My grandchildren, my love you. God has also placed a special type of power within the body of man. This power arises from wisdom and exists in a very secret way. It exists in man’s breath, in his wisdom, and in the qualities of God within him. If man establishes a connection to this power of divine luminous wisdom and develops it so that he is able to scrutinize each and every thing he encounters, then even though his body is made of the five elements, no current in this illusory ocean of life can ever harm him.

If he uses this power correctly, the four hundred trillion, ten thousand dangers that come to hurt him will receive a jolt the moment they touch him. Nothing will be able to catch hold of him, not illusion, darkness, torpor, satan, demons, nor ghosts. None of these countless evil beings or animal qualities will be able to harm him. God’s power is like that, God’s wisdom is like that, and God’s qualities and actions are like that. If man’s actions and duties are done in that electric state of divine luminous wisdom, then he will be sharp enough to escape from any kind of accident. But first he must generate this power within himself.

My grandchildren, the power of God is electric. His wisdom, love, and compassion are electric. If we connect ourselves to this power and make it function within us, we too will have so much power. And we must use that power in the proper way, just as the electric fish uses its current to protect itself. Then neither earth nor water nor anything else can harm us; whatever touches us will receive a shock and quickly leave. No matter what type of danger may approach, it will get fried and that will be the end of it. This power within the heart will protect us.

My love you. Think about this. The same One who gave electricity to this fish has also given man a wondrous power. But man does not make use of it. He has lost contact with the power and the beauty within, and instead he looks at all the visions in the outside world, exclaiming, “This is beautiful! That is beautiful!” But all that he sees on the outside will eventually kill him. Because of his connection to the elements, that electricity of the world will shock him, lift him up, and throw him down.

Man learns only about electricity of the world. He does not consider the power that he has within him, the power given to him by God. The electric fish uses the natural power given to it by God, but man swims about in the huge ocean of illusion, relying on artificial powers, and because of that he is subject to accidents. If only man would make contact with the true power, he would progress so much. He could obtain whatever food he needed and live happily. How peaceful his life would be.

My love you, my grandchildren. Understand and use that natural power of God’s wisdom. Then no harm can come to you. Whatever comes to hurt you will be shocked and then leave you alone. My love you.

As-salamu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. May the peace of Allah and His beneficence be upon all of you. May Almighty Allah help us. Amin. May the One of limitless grace and incomparable love protect and sustain us. Amin.
