Question: How do we surrender to the Sheikh so that we can hear his voice inside? Bawa Muhaiyaddeen: This is how: “I have nothing other than the determination and iman to surrender to the Sheikh. [Bawa Muhaiyaddeen here refers not to himself as the Sheikh but to God as the ultimate Sheikh]. He is the Father who lifts me. That is the ship which shows me the way and pulls me along. That’s my life and my existence. That is my wisdom. That is the ship on which I travel. That is the one who lifts me from this hell. That is the treasure who lifts me up from the depths and protects me. That is my light. Without that lift, I cannot get ashore. I cannot carry on in this birth without that. In order to cross over and be lifted out of the nine hells—the arrogance, karma and maya of this birth, the mind and desire which are the senses, and earth, fire, water, air and ether which are the five elements. I need a father. I need the Noor (Effulgence of God), I need a Light. Without these, I cannot be lifted out, so I must surrender myself to God, that treasure.” If with certitude and determination you surrender to that, then you can give it all responsibility. Take your job, your salary, all the possessions you have kept and put them all in the bank (of trust in God). Then you can come and receive a check, keeping that check in your possession. Like that, you have to place all your belongings, all your earnings, your intentions, your thoughts, and all your savings in that bank. Then from His hand, you can receive the check which is Iman, and keep it in your hand. That is a check which must be in your possession, and all the other things must be handed over to the bank. That is surrender. Then, whenever you are in need, you can write a check, go within, and receive it. When you have handed over all other responsibility, that is surrender. The justice of God, the justice of a king, the justice of a human being, and the conscience; these four justices are the law. The justice of God must become the king’s justice; the king’s justice must become man’s justice, and man’s justice must become the justice of the conscience. These four types of justice must prevail in this world. If any of these four fail, the country is ruined. Accidents will happen. Famine will come to that country. Disease will come to that country. Accidents will be caused in that country by fire, water, wind, storms, viruses and dangers of the skies. The country will be made poor and then be destroyed by diseases, sicknesses, venereal disease, cells and fire. You have these four justices and each world within your heart. The world is within your heart and you are the king for this country. Since you are the king of this country, you must dispense God’s justice in it. You are the king of this country and this world. Since you are the king in the kingdom of the Qalb, you must take God’s Justice and make it the king’s justice. You have authority over this country; God has given you that crown. Of the 18,000 worlds, you are the king. You will have to pass judgment. You will have to dispense justice. You will have to inquire into the rights and wrongs, and then rule that kingdom according to those investigations. You must bring the Justice of God into the king’s justice and then rule the country with that justice. Within your heart there is your soul and six types of subjects. There also are (the essences of) animals, demons, ghosts, snakes, scorpions, elements, senses, jinns, fairies, beasts, and human beings there. In the18000 worlds, there are four billion, ten thousand types of cells, atoms, lives, people who have reached God, and people who are crazy. So many kingdoms, the sun, the moon, the stars, the Soul and the six types of souls are within your heart. According to the understanding of the soul, you must rule the kingdom as the king. You must resplend as human beings and as Adam there. Noor comes as Light. That Light Noor, that Heart (Aham) which is Light and the Face which is that Beauty, join together and become one Light. That Light is the Noor, the Completion. The name of that Light is Ahammad and Muhammad. That is man. That is what is called man. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship Family Newsletter January – February 2000
