Dispel Your Differences December 6, 1979 In the name of God, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate. All praise is to God. May all responsibility be to the One who protects all created things. To my very precious children, jeweled lights of my eyes, and to the entire human generation—in all four directions, north, south, east, and west—I give my love. May God be the One who protects, nourishes, and sustains all. Ameen. My children, with our wisdom we must realize deep within ourselves that we are the children of Adam (A.S.) and the creations of God. We must believe with conviction that God is the only one who can protect all His created beings. The 124,000 prophets were sent down as the representatives of God. Twenty-five of these were selected, and eight of the twenty-five were further selected: Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Moses, David, Jesus, and Muhammad (Sal.). The prophets came to this world only as witnesses, to make the children of Adam accept that God is One, to explain that the human generation is one, and to make all live in unity and harmony. The prophets did not think of one race, religion, or color as different from another. Has any prophet ever mentioned one color—black, white, yellow, or red—as lower than another? Has any prophet mentioned one people, one race, or one religion as separate from another? No. Have the scriptures made them separate? None of the religions has shown any one color as lower than the other or separated one color from the others. All the different colors are joined in every religion. This is proved by the puranas, the Torah, the Bible, and the Qur’an. The prophets told the people to accept God as the One Father, and told them to live as one society, worshipping One God. My children, if each one of you would think of this, it would be helpful. Look at a black cow. If you peel off its skin, what do you see inside? Only flesh. Is the flesh black? No. If you strip off the skin of a white cow, what do you see? Its flesh is the same as the flesh of a black cow. The difference is only in the skin, not in the flesh. The entire human generation and the animals differ only in skin. Otherwise, the creations of God are not different, nor is their flesh different. All those who have wisdom must realize this. My very precious children, your lives are ahead of you. Children studying in universities and schools, you are children who have to progress in whatever discipline you are studying. Very precious children, you who are growing up as the human generation must reflect on this. In your houses, there may be black cats or white cats, black dogs or white dogs, and animals of various colors; no color is rejected. It is proper, then, for one man to discard another because of his color? Some people have black hair on their heads, some have white hair. The pupil of the eye is black, and there is white around it. If our hair becomes white, some of us immediately dye it black, do we not? Do we pull out our hair because it is white? Do we tear out our eyes because they contain black? We write with black ink, do we not? We wear black clothes for very festive occasions. We enjoy black things, but we make distinctions between black and white in skin color. This does not suit the wisdom of a human being. Analyze with your wisdom. Now take a person whose skin is black. He wears white clothes. His teeth are white, there is white in his eyes, his nails are white, and his bones are white. Can he say, “I am black,” when he has all this white in him? Can he throw it away? How can anyone discard the color white? If you are a black person, you cannot discard white, and if you are a white person, you cannot discard black. You might as well discard your entire body. These colors are within your body. You cannot discard them. O brothers, think about this. Reflect on it and get rid of the quality of separation. That would be very good. The flesh of all men is the same, created out of the five elements of earth, fire, water, air, and ether. Flesh, skin, and bones are created of the five elements. Everyone has the same composition. My precious children, to forget this and see differences and divisions is not appropriate to unity, growth, and progress. If we want unity, if we want our country to progress, if we want mankind to progress, if we want to dispel poverty and famine in the land, if we want to live good lives, then we must acquire the necessary wisdom and unity. Unity is the majesty of our country. Tolerance and peacefulness are the good qualities that show the signs of excellence. These are the valuable things that should be developed within you and within everyone in the world. My very precious grandchildren, you are young in age. You are the children who will be in charge in times to come, protecting and serving the people. Therefore, you must not foster division and discrimination in your land. You must nurture unity and faith in God. You must accept all equally, no matter what color they are. We must develop faith in God. We must remember that all men are creations of God and children of Adam (A.S.). We must realize that there is only one race and one God who is worthy of worship. When we divide ourselves into religions and colors, separating one man from another, this is not compatible with the wisdom of a human being or with the laws of justice. Every child must realize this. Two hundred years ago the land of America was governed by men who believed in God and His truth. In those days, if we fought among ourselves, we fought in ignorance; people of different backgrounds did not understand one another. But that ignorance did not grow. It was destroyed. Ultimately, we came to a point of unity through faith in God. Two hundred years have passed. We have progressed since then. These are days of progress. In the present century, we have seen so many wonders of science and learning—planes and ships and atomic missiles. Science has taught us to go out into space and deep into the earth. If we still persist in fighting over differences, as we did in the days of our ignorance, it will not suit our learning, our wisdom, or our progress. My children of wisdom, every child of every color and every religion must realize that we are creations of God and children of Adam (A.S.), that we must live in unity. We brought God with us when we came. Even on our money, we print, “In God We Trust,” and America is called the United States of America. Is it proper, therefore, for our beliefs to focus on disunity? You are the children who will rule the world in the future. But because we have separated ourselves from unity and God, this country is facing many difficulties. In 1914 there was a World War and in 1938 there was a second World War. Now a third World War seems to be rearing its head. We do not know when it will start or when it will end. If we want to avert this we need unity, tolerance, peacefulness, the laws of justice and truth, and faith in God. I ask that you think of this and act accordingly. If all people live united, the land will flourish. If the people stand divided, the land will be ruined. If we fight, if the country is disturbed, other lands will enjoy seeing our disunity. But if our land stands united, other lands will fear our strength. Therefore, we must foster unity. Do not foster discrimination and division. Children of wisdom, children of awareness, children of intelligence, you have to realize this and make unity grow. You may have heard of those who isolated themselves through their arrogance—you may have heard of Hitler, Stalin, and Idi Amin. Where are they now? All of them have gone. We should not acquire such qualities. We should not have arrogance and create divisions. We should not reject people because of the color of their skin. We must acquire God’s qualities, tolerance, peacefulness, forbearance, and unity. My very precious children, if you think of this and act accordingly, the land of America will flow with gold. In the present state of the world, if you quarrel and bicker among yourselves, if you fight among yourselves, it will be like stirring up a lake and letting the birds of prey pick up the fish which are pushed to the surface. You must not stir up your country and give your enemies room to criticize you. Every child must think of this. No matter where you may live, whether in the east, the west, the north, or the south, you must stand united, show compassion, love all lives as your own, think of the troubles of others as your own, and live with good thoughts, good intentions, and good qualities. Fire is used in every household. Does the fire show discrimination? Water is required in every home. Does the water show any discrimination? Air is required by everyone. Does the air show any discrimination? Everyone needs the sun. Does the sun show any discrimination? The moon is needed in all countries. Does the moon show any discrimination? God is within everyone but God does not show any differences between nations or between the different children. God looks after every life with compassion. Within man, too, there is equality, love, graced, patience, tolerance, inner patience [sabur], gratitude [shukur], trust in God [tawakkal-Allah], and the praising of God [al-hamdu lillah]. These are the qualities that create peace within man. They are like water which can quench the thirst of all lives. You must develop these qualities and feed and comfort every life and every race. This is God’s truth. These are the qualities of God, the qualities that the prophets brought with the commandments of God. My very precious children of wisdom, all of you, whether you are young or old, must think of this. Cut away your differences and try to bring about peace and tranquility. This will bring majesty to our country. Ameen. May God protect and sustain you with His grace. By : Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Muhaiyaddeen, Bawa. The Truth and Unity of Man.
