God says, "The many different things I created in the world are shown to you as examples. Use your wisdom to learn from them, and climb up. Look at this lotus I created. It grows up from the mud and lives in the water, but it doesn't keep any of the dirt or water on its petals. You also grew from filth and slime, but unlike the lotus, you keep all of it within you. Because you hold so much dirt inside you, your life is one of suffering. But since the lotus doesn't hold onto any of the things it grew from, its life is one of great beauty. "Look at the countless species of flowers I created for the honeybee. Do you see how many colors and fragrances they have? But with all that variety available, notice how the bee extracts only what belongs to it and then goes on its way. Similarly, for you I created so many things, each with its own essence and qualities, both good and bad. Why don't you take only what belongs to you and go on your way? The honeybee doesn't hang around saying, 'These flowers are all so beautiful, I want to enjoy them all.' It extracts only what belongs to it. Similarly, it is your job to identify what it is that belongs to you, take only that, and move on. "Now, if you churn fifty bottles of milk, out of it you will get only a half pound of butter. Churn yourself and see what happens. Only the little bit that's valuable will remain. That is Me, the one valuable thing. Try melting that, and if you look into it, you will see yourself and see Me. Use your wisdom and look at all the things I've given you. Churn each thing and from it extract that one very small thing of real value." There is no end to God's examples. "See the tiny bird I created, the hummingbird. It has dark feathers, but they shine, and it moves like lightning. Your body is also dark, but I placed a resplendent light within you, a light of faith and certitude and determination, a light of wisdom. It is within you, always shining there. "Yet another lesson comes from the hummingbird. Do you see how it balances itself to sip the honey, without ever touching the flower? It hovers above it, balancing in the air while dipping its beak into the flower to drink the honey. In your life you should be like a hummingbird. Don't touch the world. Balance above it, without resting on it, and take only the point you need. If the hummingbird were to lose its balance and land on the flower, the stem would break and the nectar would be lost. Likewise, if you lose your balance, you will land on the world and fall. So, stay in balance, saying, 'There is nothing other than You, O God, You alone exist (La ilaha illallahu). (1) Taste that honey. It's from the ocean of wisdom. Once you taste that, you will understand." The ocean of wisdom is so vast. God placed millions upon millions of things in that ocean, as examples for us to observe and study. "Although there are many, many petals surrounding a flower, from its depths comes but a single fragrance. In the same way, despite the countless desires I have placed in you, and the many things that engulf you, one beautiful fragrance comes from deep within, from the real you, and that beautiful fragrance wafts from you to all those things. So send forth that fragrance to everything that lies within you. Bring all your desires under control and transform them. It is possible for you to do that. Give your fragrance to all these things in you. All these things were put in the ocean of wisdom to help you understand this. "Look how fruits are surrounded by many twigs and leaves. I created them like this for a reason, to deflect the force of any strong winds that blow, so the fruit would not be harmed. And just as I placed those twigs and leaves around the fruit to protect it, I gave you a body with many, many desires and cravings, so that whenever troubles and sufferings came forcefully to attack, the ones to feel the brunt of the attack would be the desires and cravings of your lower self, not you. The real you lies within, protected and safe. Whatever thunder and shaking comes at you will be felt by your desires. They are being attacked because of what they intended. But you make the mistake of thinking that you are the one who is under attack and suffering. You need to realize that the body (the lower self) and the desires have been created deliberately to buffer the force, so you would not feel it, so you could live in peace and safety." This example can help you to understand something important. God has created many things as examples for us to learn from. If we fail to understand, it is because of our lack of wisdom. It has two aspects: la ilaha, which represents the qualities of the creations, which are discarded on the outgoing breath; illallahu, which is the essence of God and is embraced on the indrawn breath.
