O Mankind Born into This World of Spiritual Ignorance (Angnanam), (1) Which Has Set Out to Investigate Scientific Inquiry (Vingnanam)(2) Only God will know the glory of God. Only God will know His power and His creation. Amīn. Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahīm In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. O ignorant world of scientific inquiry that has set out to research into research! Investigate your body of ignorance (angnanam) that dwells within ignorance! Instead of doing this, you have set out to investigate the atomic forces. Put that aside and investigate your body of ignorance. So many millions upon millions of poisonous microorganisms (3) are dispersed throughout that body in the form of atomic forces—atoms upon atoms, possessing the power to destroy the good atoms, which shine as atoms of true wisdom, or meingnanam.(4) These poisonous atoms dwelling within the body of ignorance exit on the breath, in the speech, and in many other ways, and attract to them microorganisms that come mixed with the wind from outside—from food, clothes, air, speech, breath, and many other sources—and draw all of these back into this city that shines as the body of ignorance. Analyze and reflect upon the fact that these poisonous atomic microbes living within this body of ignorance are more dangerous and possess more power than all the poisonous microbes found in all fourteen worlds. Further, even though such poisonous organisms may emanate from some distant corner, man’s breath has the power to attract and draw them from all four directions into his body, when he breathes or speaks. O world! What you have set out to investigate is science, or vingnanam. But you have lost sight of the fact that the body which is doing the investigating is a body of ignorance (angnanam). The world you are investigating is but one half of an atom. On the other hand, the body (which is a world of ignorance wherein dwells the one who is trying to analyze that atom) is vaster than the fifteen worlds. You are dwelling right within that body without attempting to analyze it, and yet you have set out to investigate these microbes that are no more than discarded refuse lying in some distant corner, invisible to the eye and subject to destruction. Try instead to find a way to destroy the poisonous atomic microorganisms inhabiting this city of your body of ignorance that is larger than the fifteen worlds. So many kinds of toxic microbes live within this city that even if you try for as long as you live, you will never succeed in destroying all of them completely. Further, within this city called the body, there are poisonous animals (filled with poisonous qualities) poisonous insects, birds, winged creatures, worms, bees, scorpions, centipedes, and the like, lions, tigers, bears, elephants, buffaloes, cows, bulls, rabbits, rats, iguanas, deer, elk, donkeys, horses, camels, eagles, crows, parrots, mynahs, woodpeckers, doves, mongooses, cobras, pigs, foxes, dogs, vultures, fish, cranes, larks, swans, and countless millions of other creations, each in the form of the poisonous qualities and microorganisms associated with it. These dwell within man’s body, travel in the breath by way of the thoughts, move into the pores, and then leave the body via these pores and via the blood, the breath, the urine, the feces, the saliva, the phlegm, the eyes, the nose—that is to say, by way of all nine openings. Once outside the body, they become dispersed, to settle on different objects in various locations, near and far. The number of poisonous microbes that dwell within the body of one who bears the human form is so vast as to be beyond estimation. They exist in minute form, smaller than a particle of a particle of a particle of an atom. When they leave the body by way of the breath, blood, phlegm, sweat, urine, and feces, other microbes that exist outside the body attach themselves to them and find their way back into the body along with them. That is, the stale air within man’s body goes out as impure breath, attracts various impurities and poisonous microbes that come from all four directions (mixed with the air), and draws them back into the body. These external poisonous microorganisms propagate 4,448 different kinds of strange and subtle infectious diseases within the body. If a pure man, living in the midst of human society, will purify his body (with the help of his wisdom) until it dazzles like a shining mirror, then when these toxic organisms fall on that mirror called perfectly pure wisdom, they will be burnt up in its resplendence. However, if the body is not made pure (with the help of the resplendent mirror called wisdom), impure microbes will enter that body through its pores. And through these same openings, dangerous microbes can now also escape. These toxic microbes will scatter all over the world, settling on and thriving in impure places, multiplying at the rate of one billion per microbe, and then spreading out to settle on different living creatures, where they will go on propagating a variety of infectious diseases. The foods man eats also contain poisonous microbes that produce diverse effects. He consumes meat from dead sheep, cows, chickens, cranes and many other kinds of carcasses that are filled with poisonous essences mixed with poisonous organisms and toxic products. As a result, man’s body emits a stench more foul than that of a dead animal. The urine, feces, body, and corpse of a human being stink, because of the horrible germs mingled within. Thus it is from man that poisonous microorganisms (capable of causing lethal diseases) fly out and settle on other lives, bringing about various kinds of infectious diseases. The poisonous organisms already existing in those other lives then mingle with man’s toxic organisms, soar upward into the skies, spread out across the clouds, and then descend, settling on vegetation, water, trees, shrubs, fruits, green leaves, and various foods. Therefore, unless man decontaminates such foods before eating them, many types of diseases will arise in him. There is no creature more exalted among God’s creations than man. But also, there is no creature that torments other lives as man does, filled as he is with poisons, toxic organisms, poisonous essences, magnetic and electric forces, and many millions upon millions of toxic energies. Millions upon millions of these enter the body of man through the air he breathes, spread throughout his body via the warmth and coolness of the blood and water and air in his body, and settle down in any and every part of his body. These microbes live off the nerves, bone marrow, bones, muscles, membranes, lungs, liver, heart, bile, spleen, large intestine, small intestine, bladder, kidneys, the eighteen kinds of piles, the gallbladder, the seven layers of skin, the pores, the nail beds, the eyes, the saliva, the nasal discharge, and the tears. They are then discharged from man’s body through his breath and through all the body’s openings, and settle on things outside of that body. Thus things in the world take in many millions of varieties of toxic organisms, each capable of causing a different type of disease. If the objects on which those microbes settle are taken in by any life, either via the food it eats, the water it drinks, the air it breathes, through saliva, or by any other means, those microbes will bring on diseases characteristic of that being. They will feed on its good blood and create an impure, poisonous fluid in the body. There are one thousand varieties of microorganisms that eat the blood. Of these, organisms of seven colors—white, red, gray, rose, blue, light yellow, and a mixture of black and white—are mingled in the blood. If the one thousand varieties were analyzed minutely, all these seven kinds of organisms would be seen in the blood. But if the analysis were not done properly, only two kinds would be identified—the white and the red. The state of health or disease of the body will depend upon the relative proportions of each. Where more red exist, the blood is thick and the body is strong and healthy. However, if the white organisms are in excess, they will not only eat the cells that produce red organisms but also suck up the blood itself. In that state, they will turn the body yellow, cause lethargy in the nerves as well as in organs such as the heart, and, by dampening the life forces, actually cause the heart to stop beating. There are many, many kinds of microorganisms like these that inhabit the body and feed on it. Further, there are 105 million pores in the skin of man. Since microorganisms are continually entering and leaving by way of these openings, one who is man must analyze himself with his wisdom, realize the nature of these organisms and the diseases they cause, and be aware of the ways in which they enter and settle within his body. Knowing that they reach him most often via heat, cold, humidity, wind, water, and food, and from impure places, he must protect both his body and his inner being through the principles of perfect purity appropriate to each of them. My children, even if you do take such precautions, you must be aware that not all the microorganisms in water are killed by boiling. Since there are some that live in the cold and others in the heat, those that live in the cold will be killed when water is heated, while those that live in the heat will not. Therefore, water must be boiled, cooled, and filtered seven times before you drink it. Even so, the eggs of these microbes can settle on the surface of cooked food, honey, sugar, and the like. Make it your primary objective to analyze and study your body. Use your wisdom to analyze your saliva, blood, and phlegm, as well as mother’s milk, goat’s milk, and cow’s milk. Find out how many different kinds of germs exist within all of them. They creep into and hide within each other, moving about as atoms or other particles too small to be seen by the eye. You must investigate all of these carefully. Dangerous toxic energies more powerful than atomic poisons continually accumulate and dwell as particle upon particle within this city that is man’s body. Out of all the creations, it is man whose body contains the greatest proportion of these poisonous atomic microorganisms. Moreover, when man eats other creatures, he gathers into his body the poisonous microbes that have formed in them. These microbes lay eggs and hatch young ones, and thus go on multiplying and thriving within that body. In the case of creatures that are not eaten by him, when they die (either from illness due to these microbes or from any other cause), as soon as their breath departs, some of the microbes that had dwelt within them fly into the air to settle on leaves, foliage, fruits, shrubs, and creepers, and lay eggs on them. Others escape in the fluid oozing from that decomposing body and then move about in the wind, smoke, skies, and water. Still others settle on birds, other winged creatures, and animals. And, since the human body has stronger magnetic forces than the bodies of other creations, when man moves about here and there, the magnetic power in his breath draws into him these microbes that have spread around in all these ways. In addition, the dirty sweat from his body emits foul odors, and, upon sensing that smell, some microbes cling to it to reach the skin, enter via some of the pores, and mix with the blood. Thus man has the power to draw into his body all kinds of things in the world and store them within himself. Man should analyze his body with his wisdom, dissecting that city of angnanam (ignorance) particle by particle, and thus understand the 105 million gateways that are the pores of his body. He must dissect each of these entrances, in turn, into 105 million particles, analyze them, know the poisonous germs existing within each, and be aware of the propensities of each of them and the particular diseases they can cause. After this, he must employ the wisdom that can make use of the magnetic forces within him to burn up these organisms. As soon as he realizes that his body is the substance on which these poisonous atomic microorganisms feed and live, he must use the resplendence of wisdom that is spotlessly pure hygiene to purify and protect his body by washing it, clothing it, properly nourishing it, and by various other appropriate actions. Let us describe certain basic principles directed toward preventing these microbes from reaching or entering the substance that is man’s body. His dishes and other utensils should be washed in boiling water and wiped clean before each use. Every time he returns home after going out, his clothes should be boiled (5) and cleaned before they are worn again. In this way, he must use his wisdom to analyze each section (the cold, heat, dew, and the winds from all four directions) and protect his body accordingly. If we were to fully describe this truth, there would be a lot more to be told. If one who is man knows himself, he will know his Lord. One who cleanses himself becomes one who has cleansed his wisdom. One who has cleansed his wisdom is one who has cleansed his inner self. One who cleanses his inner self becomes one who knows perfect purity and who is perfect purity. One who knows perfect purity is one who knows God. That knowing is perfect purity. If he comes to know this perfect purity, he becomes one who knows the creation and the actions of all lives and the poisonous germs that dwell within them. Further, men of wisdom, wherever they may be, upon seeing the death of any creature, will dig a hole four or five feet deep and bury the body in the earth to prevent the fetid odors and poisonous organisms from rising in the air and spreading everywhere. This is the hygiene and purity practiced by those of wisdom. While this is so, one of wisdom who has investigated the body of man, having learned its truth by repeatedly dissecting and analyzing the actions of his own body, and, having come to know the infectious diseases arising with it, will cut away the poisonous microorganisms of ignorance within that body, and using the light of his wisdom, will burn them to ashes. Moreover, there are even some great ones who, knowing their bodies, can simply cast out those poisonous microbes of ignorance. Man’s body contains vast numbers of atomic organisms that develop as particles within particles, in a manner invisible to the eyes. But man [instead of investigating these atomic germs within his body] has invented devices designed to help his body live in ease and comfort, based on scientific principles derived from the world’s research of the atom. And he is continuing to invent more and more of these things. However, when the atomic energy utilized for such research is released, poisons and poisonous organisms also escape from those atoms, attract other poisonous organisms and poisons in the upper atmosphere and outer space and mix with the clouds, then are blown and scattered by the wind in all four directions. Some of them are pressed downward, mixed with rain, dew, and the winds, and become dispersed throughout the lower atmosphere. From there they are pulled downward even further by the atomic energies and magnetic forces of the earth, to finally settle on various objects on the earth. Because the atomic magnetic energy in the body of man (like that in the earth) is more powerful than the magnetic energy in all the organisms that have settled on other objects, the human body attracts and takes into itself those toxic and poisonous organisms and absorbs them. Some also enter man’s body through water and food, subsequently causing new types of diseases yet unknown to scientific research. Thus man’s body, more than that of any other creature, has the magnetic power to take in, collect, and store within itself countless toxic and poisonous microorganisms. Moreover, these organisms with malevolent energies cause the body of man to emit and evil odor worse than that of any other creature. This is why a human corpse should be buried in the earth, in a proper manner, as soon as the warm breath has left the body. But let us describe some further details regarding man’s body. In this body—in its warmth, its coolness, in the blood, the water, the muscles, nerves, skin, bones, marrow, membranes, and many other parts—dwell many, many different kinds of microorganisms. As soon as the life, or soul (rūh) of a human being has departed, some of them fly out through the pores. However, even after the life leaves, some heat remains compressed within the heart for up to twenty-four hours—heat that has been produced by the five elements. Since this heat is like magnetic atomic energy, it attracts microbes and poisons which remain in that warmth (along with the five elements) until the corpse is buried under the earth. But as soon as the corpse has been buried, since there is a connection between the body of the five elements and the earth, and since the power of the earth is stronger, the earth will draw into itself the five elements of that body of clay and the microorganisms with in it. As a result of the compression of the earth, those organisms, unable to escape and rise into the air, then flow with the body fluids into the earth. As they travel down, they are consumed by the atomic magnetic forces in the earth and merge with the earth in the form of magnetic energies. The five elements of the body (earth, fire, water, air, and ether), which once arose form earth, now go back into that same earth and merge with it. This is why, among the assembly of human beings, great ones of wisdom, after analyzing the body, have asserted that burial is the most hygienic method of handling a corpse. However, there are those who claim that since these microbes disperse throughout the body as soon as the breath has departed, the burning of the body (after performing the funeral rites) is the purest way. In the process of analyzing themselves with the clarity of their wisdom, these great ones have most diligently dissected and analyzed, section by section and atom by atom, the instruments of ignorance within this body, separating the evil things within it from the good things and explaining their meaning. They declare that the human birth is most exalted and that the body of this birth exists as a theatrical stage upon which all the fine arts (which appear in the most exquisite and novel forms) are studied and acted out. They see that on this theatrical stage countless millions of dramas are enacted, during which a suitable backdrop is drawn down for each of the acts that are played out against it. They realize that this stage is also the palace of the temple of wisdom, a palace in which the King resides and holds His court of justice. Realizing the significance of the scenes acted out in this mansion of the body, analyzing and understanding all the dramas, seeing the dramatic prowess, the acting, the music, and the dancing in the performances, and understanding this mansion (which has the appearance of a palace full of various sculptured scenes), the wise elders tell us to understand that the body is but a theater in which all these scenes are acted out. Thus, a man of wisdom, at a loss to know how to adequately describe the wonder of the human birth and of man’s body (the mansion in which man dwells), observes the wonders of his own body and praises it, saying, “O exquisite sculpture that has taken this human birth! O man! How marvelous is this sculpture that you use to study, learn, know, see, and act with such sophistication, in dance and in drama! God created you in a most exalted mold, taking into account all the scenes your eyes would see.” But knowing that God has wondrously created within the mansion of the human body a most exquisite tool (6) that uses wisdom to retain in man’s memory all that he learns, touches, sees, and studies (his acts and dances, as well as many millions of natural and artificial things), the man of wisdom then exclaims, “Oho! O exquisite tool that photographs and retains securely the good and bad qualities and all other things that manifest in so many different ways! O joyous human birth!” And he proceeds to analyze, through his expanded wisdom, both the good and the evil in this body. It is in this state, while analyzing the human body and investigating man’s nature, his wisdom, his food, his qualities, what is artificial and what is natural within him, and his many millions of actions, that the man of wisdom examines that exquisite tool within his own body, develops the photographs it has taken, and views them. When he looks, he sees portrayed in those photographs all the things God fashioned and created—all the secrets, the good and evil, the poisonous microorganisms, poisons, and everything in the fifteen worlds photographed by that instrument. In addition, he sees within that tool yet another instrument that has the capacity to photograph all the atomic microbes not photographed by the first instrument. Observing all this, he develops, washes, and scrutinizes these photographs too, one by one, and realizes finally, “Oho! Nothing can be found outside man’s body—this unique sculpture called the human birth—that is not found within it. Moreover, even if such a thing existed, man’s body contains the instrument that has the power to attract and draw that thing to itself.” Thus realizing that evil microbes, poison, good and evil, good qualities and bad qualities, wrongdoings, nine types of poisonous metals, poisonous germs that produce disease, poisonous germs that cause evil actions, demonic qualities, human qualities, animal qualities, bird-like qualities, and many millions of other qualities are all intermingled within that body—this great one who has realized himself concludes that although there is nothing more exalted than man, there is no creation that has gathered as much evil poison as man, who stores, in the discarded object called his body, so many dangerous microbes, poisonous qualities, and impure things with putrid smells. Knowing with certitude that within man (who lives with the body acquired in this human birth) there are poisons more deadly than those of the most venomous snake and vile toxins more lethal than the deadliest arsenic, the wise one then develops these pictures, inspects them, and declares that this being called man need to be buried with more care than a snake. Moreover, since small germs and all kinds of harmful things live in man’s body in the form of atoms or particles, and since the sources of all his degenerate qualities are enshrined within and spread throughout it, as soon as the air in the breath leaves that body, some of these microorganisms escape by way of the air. In addition, as the life leaves his body, and the three humors (wind, bile, and phlegm) mixed together are pulled up and down between his throat and his heart to produce the death rattle, the poisonous microbes dwelling within these humors escape with the breath. And although some atomic organisms that were living in the body heat escape, others linger on in the warmth of the heart until the corpse is buried. If the body is buried in a grave five or six feet deep, the pressure of the compacted earth, combined with the pressure of the heat produced by the friction between the five elements crowding together in the heart, make the germs pass into the earth, mixed with the body fluids. There they are drawn in and consumed by atomic magnetic forces and made to mingle with the earth. Wise elders who have realized this and have understood the state of their own bodies have requested that they be buried in the earth in order to prevent their bodies from causing suffering to other lives. Not only do they avoid hurting others while they are alive, but they also make certain that other lives do not suffer as a result of the microorganisms and atoms from their bodies after the soul has left the body. The wise elder explains further to his children with wisdom: My infants who have wisdom! What you have to know is that one who is born as man is one who has attained a very high state. However, the body of ignorance within which he lives paints itself with the ink of the darkness of ignorance, prepares the camera of his desire by loading it with the film called craving, photographs scenes of good and evil and of things seen and unseen in all the universes, and stores them all as pictures within that camera (of desire). In this state, it fills to overflowing (with good and evil and with poisonous essences and microbes) a mansion eighteen thousand times larger than this world. Thus, not only does man cause suffering to other lives among God’s creations while he is alive, but even after his life has departed he brings torment to other lives by dispersing the poisonous creatures, evil qualities, and poisonous microbes released from his body. Analyze yourself and investigate this truth with your wisdom—says the one of wisdom. However, each one can analyze and know this truth only to the extent of his wisdom, and there are some people who, in keeping with their amount of wisdom, insist, “If corpses are burned in fire they become purified. Everything will be burned up. That is the purest way.” But my son! Diffused throughout a man’s body are millions of tiny microorganisms as small as an atom and even as small as a particle of a particle of an atom; and since they dwell in warmth, in the blood, air, and water, in muscles, membranes, bones, marrow, and skin, if a man’s body is burned in fire, the microbes that live in that warmth, the germs of evil qualities that live in the taints of sin, the countless poisonous atomic organisms, the microbes that escape when fat and body fluid melt, those that escape in the smoke and in the fat component of smoke, the impure, disease-producing microbes from the excretory openings and the bowels, the poisonous organisms within the brain and skull, and many millions of other organisms of evil diseases—all these will rise up in the smoke and heat of the fire to settle on tress, shrubs, leafy vegetables, animals, and the like. Some rise with the wind and stay in the sky. Of these, the organisms of foul odors and evil qualities are then pushed down by the pressure of cold winds to settle below once again. These organisms, carried by way of food and vegetation, inhabit man’s body, attracted by the fetid odor of his blood. This must be contemplated carefully and understood. You may be wondering (with the thinking befitting your level of wisdom) how something that was burned can come back again. My child, I will tell you. Please listen. I have been describing the many different ways in which these microorganisms survive and spread. Reflect on this. I will give you some further explanations, to the extent of my knowledge. Men of wisdom will know even more. The sounds, the breath, the speech, and the many forms of energy that are released from man are all drawn via the air by the atoms of a natural magnetic power, which gathers them all (without any loss) and holds them spread out in the sky. This natural atomic power has attracted all the sounds and energies released from man since the world was created. It has drawn to itself all the speech and the energies of the breath of those living and those long gone, and retains them in the skies. There are even seven spheres in the sky, and these sounds exist in all seven. They will never perish. Some of the sounds existing in the lower three spheres can be identified by scientific instruments and by man’s marvelous intellect. It is possible to draw down these sounds and hear them. From time to time, some of these sounds, along with some microorganisms, come down to this earth (by way of the wind) and are then whirled away. There are those who are aware of this coming and going. Those with intelligence may know that the organisms swept down to earth with the wind cause hitherto unheard of diseases among the people living on earth. Those of you with wisdom must investigate and analyze this. Moreover, an energy that arose from the darkness called maya, or illusion, exists naturally in this earth in the form of darkness. That energy is like iron. It has the power to draw atoms and atomic energies to it; thus it attracts and retains within itself (in nature) the magnetism caused by the friction between the four elements (earth, fire, water, and air). This magnetic force has the power to draw the atomic rays produced in the lower three spheres by the impact between the atomic magnetic forces and the thunder in the skies. And the earth has the power to pull any rays that splash and scatter, and to hold them within itself. But let us put this aside for now. When people began to analyze natural phenomena scientifically, they investigated the thunder in the skies and the atomic forces within the earth, analyzed the atomic power that exists within them, and discovered different types of electrical forces and currents within them, which they began to utilize for the benefit of the world. Having discovered the connection that exists between earth and sky, and realizing that the magnetism released by thunder in the sky is pulled by the earth if it descends below a certain level, and also that the magnetism from the earth is pulled by the sky if it ascends above a certain height—having understood these two phenomena—scientists, even in the earliest days of the use of electricity, installed lightning conductors to drag into the earth the atomic forces released by thunder, thus protecting electrical circuits from damage. In the same way, within the human body, the magnetic forces formed from earth, fire, water, and air are naturally abundant in magnetic atomic form. These atomic forces hold within them energies connected to the torpor (mayakkam) caused by illusory desire. Earth is the source that provides the essential power to these atomic forces—forces that arise from the earth itself. Earth also has the power to pull them back down to it. Thus there is a close connection between the atomic magnetic power of the four elements and the current in the earth—earth being mother to the four. Moreover, all the lives that manifested out of these four elements possess a magnetic force that is attracted by earth. Earth has the power to attract and pull the body, the desires, attachments, maya, avarice, torpor, and darkness—all these. Earth pulls down on all things formed out of the four elements, preventing them from rising above a certain level. Everything pulled in this way is subject to the desire-filled earth. They are also subject to repeated births. All things pulled by earth belong to the dark, hypnotic fascination (mayakkam) caused by the desire that goes with illusion. It is this fascination (which is the magnetic energy of earth) that is responsible for repeated births. (7) It takes the form of desire. Desire emerges from the earth in the form of atoms, atomic organisms, and magnetic currents, and is whirled up by the wind to the plane of the third sphere. Then, pulled by the earth, it descends on the wind, rises once again, and continues to be cycled repeatedly in this manner. Thus it is by way of the wind that these impure atomic organisms rise up to the sky from below in many millions of forms and then drag the atoms of the colors of the ether down with them. Those atoms are then scattered on the wind in all four directions, and when they are pulled by the magnetism of the earth, they settle on various living beings and things. Wherever they penetrate, they create new types of diseases. Moreover, when corpses are cremated, many millions of microorganisms are released into the air to mingle with the organisms in the whirling winds, and when they are drawn down once again by the magnetism of the earth, they settle on various things and cause countless different kinds of diseases. An unbroken connection continues between the organisms in the air and the atomic organisms in the earth. Because of this, the germs in the air can never be totally destroyed. The reasons for this are manifold. In the case of cremation, as the microbes are dispersed into the air through the different types of heat and oils and fats in the body, the spread all over through the air to deposit themselves in different places, principally on food and water. Those of wisdom declare, therefore, that cremation is not hygienic, and may even be harmful to other lives. This has been realized by great ones who have analyzed their own bodies thoroughly. We have revealed thus far the connections that exist between the microorganisms in the lower three spheres, the magnetism of the earth, and the body of man. Of the aforementioned seven spheres let us describe the remaining four (upper) spheres. Within man’s body, manifesting as color forms from the energy of the ether, are five energies, which are referred to as the five elements. Of these five, the element called ether is capable of taking many different forms. Ether can also be referred to as the five senses, for it is the beauty and colors of the five senses that constitute ether. Within that ether, there are five metals—iron, copper, lead, silver, and gold. Atomic and magnetic forces from the other elements are always darting through them at high speed. When these forces shoot forward from their own momentum and collide with the atoms of the five metals, rays burst forth and scatter like lightning, accompanied by thunder. In between the atomic power inherent in these metals and the aforementioned magnetic forces are intermingled 10,125,000 varieties of atomic energies, spread out and covering the ether. Each particle of a particle of every one of those atoms contains 1,008 different colors. Even if all the atomic magnetic forces in the earth were to spread themselves across the earth, making it shine and dazzle like water, those shinning places would merely be reflections of the colors of the atoms in the ether. The colors we think we see on earth are really the colors of those atoms. (8) Both the colors and the atoms are being reflected as images by the radiance of man’s wisdom. This state is realized by men of wisdom, when, in the process of analyzing their own bodies, they see the atoms of the ether reflected within the resplendent mirror of the light of wisdom. In that state they use the radiance of the light of that wisdom to cut away and eliminate those atoms that cause danger and evil. It is those discarded atoms (reflected in ignorance) that have become the object of scientific research in this world of ignorance. On the other hand, there are atoms that are imperishable. These are drawn by the resplendent mirror of light called wisdom, melted by its resplendence, and deposited on the mirror as reflecting mercury.(9) When the mercury is deposited thus, the mirror shines with a resplendence more powerful than a thousand million suns. This power pierces through the seven spheres and all the universes and showers its resplendence to cover all of everything. The rays that emanate from that resplendence scatter atom by atom and fall everywhere as minute particles. And this same power is continuously drawn and consumed by these atoms of life. In addition to this power, there are seventy thousand other powers—each one a thousand times more powerful than the next—existing as powers of divine knowledge, or meingnanam. This can be comprehended by each person only to the extent of his level of wisdom. So says one with the enlightened knowledge of self-realization (a meingnani), adding that those of greater wisdom know even more. Footnotes: 1) Spiritual ignorance; the lack of knowledge of what is real and enduring; knowledge limited to that of the perishable things that belong to the physical universe; worldly or materialistic wisdom; speech from the level of intellect; angnanam arises from egoism and gives rise to vingnanam (scientific or intellectual knowledge). 2) [Reasoning; rational outlook; intellectual or scientific inquiry.] 3) [M. R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen uses the term microorganism (also microbes and poisonous atoms) to refer to thoughts or intentions such as selfishness, pride, arrogance, deceit, hypocrisy, and the like. Each thought, like microbes, is capable not only of producing disease within one’s own body, but also of hurting others.] 4) Divinely illumined knowledge of what is True, what is Real and Eternal. 5) [In many Asian countries launderers wash clothes by boiling them in huge vats over wood fires.] 6) The first instrument is divine analytic wisdom (the wisdom of the Qutbiyyat) and the second, divine luminous wisdom (grace-awakened wisdom, or gnanam). 7) [Desire-filled thoughts are the microbes that cause disease, and desire leads to repeated births.] 8) There are seven colors in the ether, which are also present in the rainbow. The colors in the rainbow are beautiful to look at, but draw poisonous germs from both the sky and the earth. There are seven corresponding colors within man (the colors of the seven nafs), which attract the poisonous germs. These germs can cause many diseases. So, even though the body may look beautiful, it contains evil germs that are inimical to wisdom, truth, and the soul. 9) The power of wisdom melts and burns all our illnesses. Once the evil is burnt up, the atoms that are indestructible become like mercury, which attaches itself to the mirror of the innermost heart. The brilliance of this mirror is hundreds of millions of times brighter than the sun, for it contains the limitless power of God. Its resplendence shines forth and envelops the seven spheres, scattering innumerable brilliant rays. The atom is just one drop of one particle of this resplendence. Within each atom is contained a great effulgence. If you research into this one tiny atom, you will find powers of God without end.
