peace of mind - "Alone, Hungry, and Awake"

By: Bawa Muhaiyaddeen

Alone, Hungry, and Awake

It's easy to pass yourself off as a swami, but it's difficult to become a true human being. None of the acts you put on will make you a true human being. No advertising agent can negotiate that position for you, and you can't win it in an election. Nobody can vote you in as a true human being. God is the only one who can cast that vote. All those voters and ad agents inside you—the millions and millions of energies within you—will only make a lot of false promises and then drink the blood of your soul. So kick them all out. Once you have sent all those inner energies and forces away, you won't have to keep running about on their account. Since there won't be any other desires there to feed, you can feed your desire for God. Then you can be alone, hungry, and awake.(1) There is nothing left to struggle over. There is no day, no night. There is no hunger, no disease, no aging, no death. Then you will become a true human being.

Love knows no death.
Truth cannot be hidden.
Duty has no leisure time and
never plays favorites.
Prayer knows no time.
God knows no end.
The soul never perishes.
In your life nothing occurs
by accident.
Your life knows no want.
Life loves you.
All lives love you.
We also love you.

That is peace.

Footnote:

This refers to a Tamil saying: Be hungry, alone, and awake.
Be hungry: Hunger for Him alone. Hunger for His wisdom, for His qualities, His actions, His love. Your wisdom and soul must focus on this hunger. Stay hungry and conquer hell.
Be alone: Discard the 'I' and allow God alone to exist. Let your heart merge with His grace and commune with Him. Stay alone and conquer the world.
Be awake: Keep your eye of wisdom open and always keep it focused on Him. Don't look at the world. Don't turn and look to one side or the other for even an atomic second. Keep your eye of wisdom awake, and you'll be able to see everything. Stay awake, as God does, and conquer illusion.
