QUESTION: If a parent or parents are responsible for the physical well-being of their children, are they not responsible for the karma of their children or the spiritual attainment of their children? BAWA MUHAIYADDEEN: A photograph of the father and mother is snapped at the time of conception. At that time, the parents might be in any form—perhaps a dog or snake form, perhaps a monkey, crane, horse, or donkey form. While they are in that state, a photograph is taken of all their qualities. When the film is developed, all of their qualities and actions can be seen on it. That photograph becomes the child. Your child then comes into this world of hell and grows on milk which is made from your blood. Your blood, your qualities, and your sounds are taken by the child as nourishment for growth. That is the way the body grows. Its awareness and intellect develop from these sources. Animals grow in the same way. This connection is called karma—that which comes from you and is imprinted within the body of the child. You fulfilled your intentions, and just as you transmitted that karma to your child, now you must give the medicine required to transform it. If you can give your child the elixir that will change that karma, transform that seed, and get rid of bad qualities, then he will develop good qualities, good actions, wisdom, patience, inner patience, and contentment. If you can change yourself to that state and guide your children to the same state, then their karma will change. On the other hand, if you hold onto your karma and continue feeding it to your children, they will never change. The roots will spread out and take firm hold. After that, it will be difficult to cut them away or uproot them. It is through your evil qualities that you created that karma. But your good qualities can cut away that same karma. If you transform yourself with good thoughts and good qualities, with wisdom, and with the grace of God, karma can be cut away. Amin. That is all for today. Please go and have your dinner.
