Look In The Mirror A question was asked of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen: Why are there so few good people in the world today? Truth Needs No Advertising Agent The mind accepts everything just as you perceive it, but it's not the truth. What you're seeing is just your own perception. The whole world, the way you're looking at it, is just your own dream. How Does God Hear Us Duty is very good, but unless we know what our duty is, how can we do it? A Good Habit There's a mechanism in the body that tells you when you're hungry. It's not an alarm clock. It's more like a habit. You just know it. There's an instrument within you that knows what time you're accustomed to eating and makes you aware of it, because you've formed a habit. The Real Miracle If you have within you the qualities of a bull, a donkey, or a tiger, that's the image you project on the outside. Whatever quality is inside, you exhibit the same quality on the outside, and then you take pride in that trait. As your thoughts give more and more energy to the illusions you harbor about yourself, you give reality to them by acting them out and admiring what you've done. Alone, Hungry, and Awake It's easy to pass yourself off as a swami, but it's difficult to become a true human being. None of the acts you put on will make you a true human being. No advertising agent can negotiate that position for you, and you can't win it in an election. It's Not a Test, It's an Opportunity God brings clarity to us in many different ways. One person may receive lessons through his children, another through his wife, another through his job. In a variety of ways God offers us lessons. So, each time we come face to face with a problem or a difficulty, we need to accept that it has been given to lift us up to a higher step. A World of Examples God says, "The many different things I created in the world are shown to you as examples. Use your wisdom to learn from them, and climb up. Look at this lotus I created. It grows up from the mud and lives in the water, but it doesn't keep any of the dirt or water on its petals. Free Yourself of Fear Fear is a thief who is forever afraid of being caught, afraid of facing the truth. That thief is hiding inside you, like the thief who hides when he sees a policeman. It's up to you to chase him away. I can't do it for you. It's something you must do, but you say you don't know how, and you want me to do it for you. It doesn't work that way. The Stick of Iman Ten million people might come to the guru, claiming that they have the strong faith, certitude, and determination called iman.(1) But when the guru strikes each person's 'strong' stick of iman against the water of wisdom over and over again, all of them will break. After three or four beatings against that water of wisdom, they will either crack in half or shatter into splinters. Only one stick in ten million will withstand the force of the water of wisdom.
